Why Rock Cancer
Improvement in the treatment of childhood cancer is a huge success story in modern medicine. But survivorship has its costs. Survivors and their families often face social and emotional issues as a result of the cancer experience. It is also known that childhood survivors and their families often find that cancer and its treatment changes their lives in many powerful and positive ways.
In 2008 as a grateful five-year survivor of lymphoma, I, Rodney Ezrapour, formed Kids Rocking Cancer to help channel the strengths and positive effects of the childhood cancer experience into Rocking Attitudes and great deeds. We will do so by providing interactive entertainment and bonding experiences such as magic and yoga workshops, along with information provided by oncology professionals from esteemed organizations such as CANCERcare and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Kids Rocking Cancer will strengthen the tradition of giving forward by encouraging and supporting Rockers to choose and deliver Rockers' Projects in helping children in need.
Kids Rocking Cancer Will:
Reinforce a Positive Attitude & Outlook Towards Life
At Kids Rocking Cancer, Kids Rock Attitudes.
Rockers reinforce their deep compassion and their renewed appreciation for life.
Rockers make the cancer experience an opportunity to grow.
Studies have shown that although cancer changes the way survivors and their families view themselves, the positive or negative nature of the change on self-image and outlook depends much more on the meaning given to the cancer experience and not the physical circumstances. Kids Rocking Cancer will help Rock that meaning.
Facilitate Communication and Bonding
At Kids Rocking Cancer, Kids Rock Relationships.
Rockers get closer to families and friends.
Rockers reinforce peer-support to combat isolation and help personal healing.
Through bonding activities, discussions, and our online Rockers Network , Kids Rocking Cancer will encourage closeness and communication within Rockers' families and their new friends. Rockers will be encouraged to share their stories and their thoughts. Survivors and their families need to talk to one another, examine their emotions, and work together toward a healthy life after cancer. We believe that relationships with people who have walked the same path, peer-support, and a sense of community help combat the isolation felt by too many Rockers and their families, and clear the way for personal healing.
Encourage Giving Forward and Helping Children in Need
At Kids Rocking Cancer, Kids Rock Kids.
Rockers join a community that cares and shares.
Rockers select Rockers' Projects to give forward and help children in need.
Kids Rocking Cancer empowers Rockers by encouraging them to select projects that support children in need. Kids affected by cancer are provided the opportunity to join the community of Rockers who care and share. Through achievements large and small, Kids Rocking Cancer will reinforce the philosophy of kids helping kids with the goal of giving forward through future generations.
Clarify Myths & Misconceptions About Cancer
At Kids Rocking Cancer, Kids Rock Myths.
Rockers clarify myths and misconceptions about cancer.
Rockers become advocates for childhood cancer survivors.
Many Rockers come across negative reactions based on stereotypes of survivors and misconceptions about cancer. Kids Rocking Cancer will work to address such myths. We will work to fight many wrong and too-commonly held beliefs such as cancer is a taboo, it is contagious, it weakens productivity, or that it conveys a short-term life for the survivor.
