An Ode to Patrick Swayze - Dancing Forever

Add a New Post

September 27th, 2009

Over two decades ago many watched in amazement as Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey danced their way into our hearts. This was ten years after John Travolta had stunned the world with his incredible moves in Saturday Night Fever. And of course who can ever forget Al Pacino’s tango with the very beautiful Gabrielle Anwar in the movie the Scent of a Woman.

Beautiful dances have a direct path to the heart. Whether tango, flamenco, salsa, disco, or any other dance, the dancers and their audiences are mesmerized by rhythm, beauty and passion. Your heart pumps faster and you feel light headed as if you can tiptoe on the clouds. You feel a bond with everyone there- a bond of companionship and pleasure, even if just for a few precious moments.

That is the way I will remember Patrick Swayze. I truly believe this is the way he wanted to be remembered. He died of cancer this week. But not for a moment did he fail to appreciate the incredible gift life had given him through his dancing. With his beloved wife Lisa, they shared a life long pleasure of enriching their lives and love through dancing.

So here is to you Mr. Swayze, may you dance for ever in our hearts. At Kids Rocking Cancer we will dance our way through a life of compassion. This would have certainly made you dance.

This being the first blog, in the beginning, it read like a thank you speech at the academy awards.  Not that I deserve one, but there are so many wonderful people who have provided key support with Kids Rocking Cancer, that I would have been kicked out of the ceremonies if I had really won the Oscars. So to all the wonderful caring people, professionals, family, friends and especially kids who want to give back after their cancer experience, YOU ROCK.

It is fortunate that we are launching Kids Rocking Cancer’s web site during the Cancer Awareness Month.  September is the month to raise awareness about cancer, which is increasingly affecting people and their families all over the world.

In all honesty, as a survivor with a great passion to give back, to me every day is for cancer awareness.  Like many who have gone through treatment and the trauma of cancer, or have experienced it through a brother or sister, parent, relative or friend, there is not one day that passes without it being a special day, and one should do their best to have a positive and compassionate attitude towards life and others every single day.
